I hope to hell
that I am never
caught in a burning building
the flames
the smoke
the heat
the windows blowing out
all that stuff would be real nasty
but the real kicker
would be when
you get to the bottom
of the fire escape
because for some reason
probably involving
thieves
and rapists
fire escapes always end
about two stories up
where you realize
that your only option
aside from burning to death
is to jump down
and likely break both your legs
or more
if you’re not so lucky
