IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES
“it’s nice in the sun,” she said
standing across the table from me
“it’s nice in the shade,” I replied
“no, it’s too cold.”
“people are different. They like different things.”
“it’s too cold with the breeze.”
I took a long slug from my mug of tea
thought about it
thought about it all
the whole goddamn thing
it could never work for any two people
without sacrifices from both
but you can’t really make sacrifices
if it’s not in your heart
“babe,” I said to her, looking away
sadly shaking my head
“this isn’t gonna work out.”
and maybe that is the major difference
between man and woman:
some like it in the sun
and some like it in the shade
