BUSTED
“now,” she said,
a very stern look on her face.
“what I’m gonna do is save you
from paying a fifty dollar fine.”
I looked back at her,
at her badge
and her leather face
and that long nose.
Then I looked around for a way out
but soon decided I was too tired to run.
I’d been nabbed,
no way around it.
I turned away for a moment,
then back.
“all right,” I sighed,
taking out my cardboard wallet
to pay for the train fare.
After giving her a good, hard look I said,
“let’s do this.”
