A POEM - IT WAS JUST HOW IT WENT

IT WAS JUST HOW IT WENT
He called me up on the telephone,
Said to me, “my life is a shambles.
I don’t do anything that matters,
Don’t provide any benefit to anybody.
I know the world would be better off
If I just died and got it over with,
Went right straight to hell
where I’m probably headed anyway.”
I listened for a moment to the sounds
In the background of wherever he was.
“that may be so,” I replied,
“but who cares about the world?
You at Lagerheads?”
“yeah,” he said, sounding guilty.
“they doing those two dollar PBRs?”
“yeah, but-”
“nice. I’ll be right down!”
